A truly tragic accident in 1986, when she was knocked from her bicycle
while training for the Winter Olympics saw Janine Shepherd's body and
dreams shattered. In a moment, her life was changed forever. Knocked off
her bike she broke her neck and back in four places, her right arm, collarbone
and five ribs. Her right leg was ripped open, she sustained massive internal
injuries, severe lacerations to her abdominal area, and lost five litres
of blood. The bleeding alone was enough to kill her. She was not expected
to live. But she did. She was told she would never walk. But she did.
